March 26th 2018 dip in the Baltic @ Sopot Gdansk Poland
I am in a book club where each time we meet we save money, with the view to going on a trip. Our first trip was two years ago to Wroclaw in Poland where we had a ball. We had hoped to make it to Iceland but with the flights being cancelled from Cork and the high cost everything in Iceland we decided to go back to Poland this time to Gdansk. A short train ride from Gdansk is Sopot as you can see with a beautiful sandy beach.
With fellow Lapper’s in the group it would have been rude not to go for a dip in the Baltic.
We waded in with freezing waves splashing up against us. I did wonder what the hell I was thinking.
Aisling just goes for it. We have no idea how far we have to wade out to get deep water and know nothing of any rip tides so we keep close to the shore and dip in to the baltic Baltic, we later find out was 3.3 degrees.
It reminds me of my Scottish childhood swims in the summertime. At least now my body has adjusted to the cold somewhat.
The rest of the gang think we are mad and so do a few onlookers. We are all delighted to have done it and Sheelagh bought some cherry vodka to warm us up. Twoje zdrowie (cheers in Polish).
Turning the Plastic Tide Tips.
Being away on a trip it is difficult to avoid plastic. A water bottle you can refill is a must and bringing a small fold up bag too for any shopping. My shampoo and conditioner bars were great for traveling along with soap avoiding clear plastic bags for security.
