Bank holiday and the car park at Lough Hyne is bursting. With the bright evenings and warmer waters the swimming activity has increased big time. I am amazed at the kilometres the Lapper’s have been clocking up and I have missed out what with a very busy May, so I have a lot of catching up to do.
It is an amazing day and Tracey is up for her first ever lap of Lough Hyne all the way around is 3K. It is just us, as the others are doing other distances so we head off anti clockwise.
The water is like a bath and I feel hot in the wetsuit but we have a good bit to go yet, first landmark Mrs Kelly’s Pier.
Strange mixtures of sea and plant life float around us.
I think I have bashed into Tracey, or a plastic bag but its a large white jelly fish, my first one this year.
It is like a little piece of heaven here, the water as green as the trees.
Thankfully Tracey is as eager to look around as I am and we spot two herons flying over our heads.
As we venture further up many the trees have fallen into the water and have become mysteroius sea creatures.
We swim directly over them.
Across the Goleen.
Hugging the back of Lough Hyne we glide over shallow water where it gently slopes with rocks and seaweed, I spot a rather large spider crab.
At the rapids we turn up towards Creepy Corner.
Creepy corner is a bit murky and I aways feel like something is going to jump out at any moment. Just a wee bit further up and it is clear, warm as a bath and lush teaming with small fish.
I meet Declan who is after a long swim but having a tog swim too. I do the same and would love to do the 3k in togs this summer.
Congratulations to Tracey on her first lap of Lough Hyne and thanks for putting up with swimming with me stopping and starting all the time to take photos. Well worth it though we do see some pretty amazing things and clocked up 3k for our June Log!!I pinched this map from Tracey Facebook page, she is gadget lady while I draw on the map the distance but it looks cool.
