I dropped my daughter off very early at school, as she was going on her school tour. I had the dogs, my bikini, rash vest and a towel in the car and headed straight for Lough Hyne. I meet Sheelagh who was headed up the hill with a fellow dipper Sheilagh so I joined them with, Toby, Ernie and Minty hot on our tails.
A walk up to the top with these fit ladies left me hot and sweaty and I was ready to embrace the water to cool off. I had no idea how far I would get.
I passed the boat and kept on going, Sheelagh was ahead of me. Following the edge all along, we got to the rocks a point I got to last year in my togs. We even managed a photo before heading back. I look pretty pleased with myself and I smiled all the way back.
Sheelagh is a strong, fast swimmer so I had to work hard to keep up with her and managed to keep her feet in my view all the way back. Sheelagh along with Ann Marie swam around the island last year so I am inspired to push myself to do that.
I am elated and thrilled. It is such a different feeling swimming without a wetsuit on. The temperature is very manageable, I recon my body has adjusted to the cold after 3 years of all year round swimming. It did take me ages to warm up though, you do need to have a hot drink after and I had a gin and tonic much later on to celebrate.
