Waxing New Moon
We swim in our togs on a Wednesday, as the weather has been amazing and high tide hitting our swim time, I suggested we swim this 2k swim, getting in at the Cove swimming around the coast Coney Island (not an island) to what I call the Beacon beach and back. This is a historic site the Cove is where Algerian pirates came into Baltimore raided the village and took women and children back to Algiers.
Thanks James for the map. My friend Emer kindly offered to paddle board with us ,Alice and Silvia also paddled with us as it is more open water and we are exposed to passing boats. I wore my large yellow float so I can be easily seen.
Emer all ready for action, and the Lapper’s are getting prepared and soaking up the glorious sunshine.
I have just had my hair done, had to get a photo as it will not look like this again, too much swimming to be done.
Out of the shelter of the Cove past all the moored boats, and up along the coast, feels more like open water swimming.
The Beacon perched majestically looking over Baltimore Harbour.
We are on out way back, I had forgotten to tell Emer we were swimming back and she got out at the Beacon Beach, my fault entirely for not communicating the plan to her. Although he water is amazing I can’t stop for chats as we would do in our wet suits. Its swim, swim, swim. I try and keep up with Sheelagh all the way back.
An amazing swim, especially to feel the water on your skin, its a different experience than with the wet suit. We had delicious cakes after.
Turning The Plastic Tide Tips
Going shopping as well as taking my own bags I have gotten into the practice of putting in a couple of Tupperware containers. The girls at the counter are of course delighted to do this for me , while at the till the cashier suggested putting the label on the bottom so she did not have to turn the box upside-down. Great tip. There is no need to buy cakes wrapped up, I really get annoyed seeing unnecessary waste. Bringing your own containers and reusing containers is definitely the way to go.
I feel just as good doing this as I do after a swim. So a wellbeing tip as well as saving plastic and waste.
