Apart from dipping in the nip ( see next blogs) I have not been in the water for over 5 weeks due to hurting my knee ( cartilage). I had no idea it would take so long to recover, so after weeks of no walking, swimming or yoga I have been feeling so frustrated and very sorry for myself . Although I am not 100% better for the sake of my mental health I have to get into the water, especially as its the last day of 2019.
When I get in I panic , I cannot breathe and I feel my wetsuit tighten around my neck. I am on my own, as I have no idea what I will do. I did not expect this to happen and hear the erratic breathing and the cold bite my face. I breast stroke for a bit and have a good talking to myself. My past adventures flash into my head and I slowly drop my head back into the water and slowly front crawl along the edge.
The beauty and the peace take over I become calm and only hear the rhythm of my breath. The slow meditation relaxes me and the flow of swimming takes me over.
Pure relief, I am back.
My focus is back on the landscape I am in the sheer joy of the colours, textures and the magical light.
I smiled all the way back and had a chat with a family of kayakers.
I smiled for the rest of the day too, what a way to end the year.
