Some of “The Dippers” missed the Dip in the Nip on the previous Saturday, so they did their own dip and I was thrilled they invited me to join them. The Dippers are legends, they have been embracing the waters of lough Hyne, year round for years. My biggest regret is not joining them earlier. You can see on their faces the benefit of dipping and the deep connection of friend ship, you can’t stop smiling around them.
We met @ 9.30 am and carpooled to a secret location, we were spotted in the car by a local man who asked if we were going for a walk, yes we were we told him, while wearing Santa hats.
We were all a bit giddy getting in , the water a bit muddy but flat calm. The feeling of the sharp cold water on your naked body is something everyone should experience. My words cannot describe this or do it justice just try it for yourself , do it with a group of like minded friends and you will have such a buzz and a giggle. I felt fantastic for the entire day.
We are also doing this for charity, raising money for West Corks Cancer Connect, the girls handed me €135 to go into the pot which was €5,820 so watch this space for the final amount as more is to come in.Well done ladies, what an experience and thank you so much for letting me share it with you all.
Phoebe Olsen is an amazing girl from Baltimore. Phoebe has the most exciting and adventures job, she is an archaeologist on small adventure cruise ships that go to all the places I would love to visit like Iceland, Norway, The Antarctic, New Zealand and Australia.
When Phoebe comes home as we go for a walk and a dip and she fill me in on all her adventures.
So fair play Phoebe for getting into the freezing water with me in the Cove Baltimore and filling my head with future travels.
Turning the Plastic Tide Tips
Cathleen as well as being an inspirational dipper is also an inspirational shopper, she has been using the same containers for washing up liquids and washing detergents for over twenty five years. She credits Patsy who has had up until recently had a Health Food Shop Ying & Yang in Skibereen. Patsy was well ahead of her time and now inspired new businesses to take over what she started.( although it is going back to my Grandparents time)
Imagine how many plastic containers that would have been used over twenty five years. We have to start making changed to how we shop.
