Waning Full Moon
My underwater camera broke. Luckily I took out replacement insurance on it and got another one, phew. I had been swimming all last week and it felt very strange without my camera. Apparently I am faster though !!
Aisling has a new underwater camera too. Well wear Aisling and remember to rinse with water after use in salt water.
There was such a rush of much colder water at the gap it took my breath away.
Some Lapper’s swim off towards the rapids, and a few of us head for around the island. Thankfully the water got slightly warmer as we went around.
I always try to get these half in half out shots. I was delighted to get this of Danny, I sent it to him and he said his head looks a bit sideways!! Definitely the water magnifies the body and there were strange things floating about the water all around the lake.
Definitely the water is much colder than this time last year, when we were in a heat wave. Fingers crossed for warmer water soon.
Turning the Plastic Tide
Donna McCarthy who is involved with Baltimore Community Council, called out for a meeting of people interested in helping Baltimore to be Plastic Free. I was so delighted to join in with a group of like minded people. Although not a big group we decided to take it step and a time.
The first step being water. Refill.ie is a great initiative, involving businesses who display the sticker, will refill any persons bottle with water. Very simple idea and simply there is no need to buy a plastic bottle. Hopefully in the future there will be “Baltimore” refill bottles for sale in local shops, as of course anyone can get stuck when on the move.
I got the stickers today and the local business , The Jolie Brise, Jacobs Bar, Bushes Bar, Casey’s of Baltimore and Baltimore Sailing Club are all on board. I still have to go down to the Algiers Inn.They will all be added to the refill.ie map so if you are going somewhere new you can check out where there are refill taps and pubs, restaurant that will refill your water bottle.
Casey’s of Baltimore are making fantastic changes to reduce their plastic footprint. Instead of plastic sachets of ketchup and mayonnaise they have wooden trays with larger (although still plastic) bottles in , hopefully they will use glass ones. They are making their own biscuits rather than biscuits wrapped in plastic and all their take away coffee cups and straws are fully compostable.
I am delighted to see these changes in my local community as it is only all together we can even imagine to make a difference and keep this beautiful world we live in beautiful.
The tidy town committee of Baltimore have to be applauded too for all their hard work.
